Women and Water Insecurity in Ethiopia

In 2009 and 2010 IDN funded an ongoing collaborative Emory University research project by partnering with CARE USA, CARE Ethiopia, the Millennium Water Program (MWP) in Ethiopia and in-country researchers from Jimma University, to undertake a project entitled “Water, Women and Development in Ethiopia” in South Gondar, Ethiopia.  Given conventional and inadequate approaches of measuring the health impact of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions in terms of diarrheal disease reduction, this collaborative project centered on two key objectives: to examine the relationship between water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and psychosocial well-being and to develop methods of measurement and evaluation for future WASH projects.
