Our Purpose

With development practice and studies at a crossroads, many research organizations and NGOs are reconsidering traditional approaches that have not delivered the expected outcomes. IDN shares this view and believes that it’s time to challenge mainstream views and move away from practices that have had limited success.  To do this, we are establishing a creative space where those who care deeply about global poverty issues can work together to focus on action-oriented research that engages scholarship and practice.

At IDN, we don’t approach the problems of global poverty by assuming we know the answers. In fact, we don’t presume to know the questions, which is why our partnerships are so important. By engaging those who understand the underlying historical, cultural and political factors, we are able to promote research that contributes toward practical, sustainable solutions.
