Education

Changing the way people think about international development begins by raising awareness of alternative approaches. Our faculty bring their IDN research experience into the classroom, and we also sponsor and host numerous events designed to educate and inform the Emory community and the public about work taking place around the globe through the following programs:

Making a Difference series

IDN’s Making a Difference series features Emory faculty and Carter Center staff hosting discussions on issues related to global poverty. The sessions help to identify areas where the two institutions can collaborate and learn from one another.

The following are some of the past Making a Difference seminars:

Thomas Crick, The Carter Center
Imagining Justice in Rural Africa: The Challenge of Post-war Liberia

John Stremlau, PhD, The Carter Center
The African Union: Are Regional Solutions to Regional Problems Realistic?

Clifton Crais, PhD, Emory University
A Century of Sadness: Violence and the Political Foundations of Vulnerability in Rural South Africa

Pamela Scully, PhD, Director, Institute of African Studies; Associate Professor, Department of Women’s Studies and African Studies, Emory University
