In the fall of 2006, Emory University, in partnership with The Carter Center, created the Institute for Developing Nations (IDN). The mission of the IDN is to harness the experience and passion of Emory's faculty and students - and the strengths and leverage of the University's networks — to help provide the poorest people in the world with the means to increase their resources and capacity for health and wellbeing. The new institute is a key outcome of Emory's strategic planning process, making it a major component of the University's vision and future direction. Emory and The Carter Center both are supporting the creation of the Institute with endowed funds.
Research done under the auspices of IDN will inform The Carter Center's work with the rigor of world-class scholarship. Together, both partners will reach new understandings of poverty and development and craft more effective solutions to the critical challenges of global poverty and inequality.
