In 2006, Emory University formed The Institute for Developing Nations, in partnership with The Carter Center, to further its strategic vision to become an internationally recognized destination university whose members work for positive transformation in the world. IDN promotes action-oriented research that redefines both the scholarship and practice of international development by establishing multi-disciplinary partnerships among a diverse set of stakeholders, including faculty and students, policymakers and NGOs. IDN emphasizes the engagement of in-country partners whose unique understanding of a region’s historical, political and cultural dynamics is key to developing sustainable solutions.
